Why OnePlus 5?
OnePlus can be identified with offering flagship-level performance at mid-range prices. CNET called out the OnePlus 3 “the best budget Android phone you can buy”. In December, India Today termed the OnePlus 3T as ‘the best phone in India right now.’ The device offered high-end specs at a more affordable price than rivals like the Samsung Galaxy S7, HTC 10, and LG G5. OnePlus will likely use the same strategy this year for its upcoming flagship, the OnePlus 5, meaning we should see a high-end smartphone that can go toe-to-toe with the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 while severely undercutting them on price. OnePlus has gradually carved a unique niche for itself in the Indian community.
The inevitable hype of the OnePlus 5 is at its peak as OnePlus has announced the launch of the new handset at an exclusive event in India on June 22. OnePlus made the announcement on Twitter and the event will take place in Mumbai at 14:00 local time. OnePlus fans will be able to buy tickets to attend the event through the OnePlus website from June 12 and those who attend will receive gift hampers “full of super add-ons and OnePlus merchandise,” OnePlus says.
Major reason OnePlus devices are so popular among consumers is because they offer great bang for your buck. However, the company has been increasing prices with each new model (with the exception of the OnePlus X). The OnePlus One started at Rs.19000 range, its successor retailed for Rs.21200, while the OnePlus 3 was available for Rs.26000 price range. The current flagship, the 3T, is the most expensive OnePlus device to date with a starting price of Rs.28000.
Though pricing isn’t confirmed yet, some sources indicate that it would be higher and could reach as much as Rs.42000. The price hike comes as the result of the costs involved with the “components and design” of the device.
Though the OnePlus 5’s pricing continues to be in the realm of speculation, all indications point towards the Rs. 30,000-42,000 range. The OnePlus 5 will be pitted against venerable devices such as iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8. Although the unique dual camera system and other startling features are blatantly similar to the newly launched iPhone 7 plus, the price will definitely cheer the users and compel them to buy this budget smartphone.
